Well, ghost type is only immune to normal and fighting, but can still be hit by those if you use certain moves or abilities like oder sleuth or scrappy.

I don't know what those are. But anyway, being immune to normal type attacks seems like a way too big advantage at the start of the game with all those pidgey and rattata equivalents.
